Timeline

The widespread use of Zoom for remote work and online classes during the pandemic has been essential. However, its complex layout and unclear system status have posed challenges, particularly for users less familiar with the platform.

How can we enhance Zoom's intuitiveness and utility to aid remote workers in task completion and enable new users to quickly familiarize themselves with the app?

Desktop Research

Zoom users meet a 30-fold increase in 2020 because of the epidemic and the number continues growing today, but its most design remains the same it was first launched, which has lots of problems.

Due to Zoom’s irreplaceability, frequent users have to tolerate the bad user experience, and new registrants have to use it even if they find it difficult to learn at the beginning.

User Interview

The analysis identifies two key groups of Zoom users: newcomers and regulars, each highlighting different challenges with Zoom's existing design.

This emphasizes Zoom's importance in streamlining its interface and enhancing support for users with less experience.

Making the platform more accessible and user-friendly is essential to cater to a varied audience, particularly for those transitioning to digital tools in the later stages of their career.

Messy layout

The current design of details of meetings loses focus on the essentials and it’s also hard to separate today’s meetings from those in the late future.

Inconsistence

The visibility of the status of the button is unclear and the display of them is also confusing, so users need to recall lots of things to operate.

Impact

The improvements in Zoom's design have greatly enhanced its ease of use, making it much more intuitive and welcoming for both new users and those who use it regularly.

Looking ahead, a key focus will be on ensuring that Zoom is accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. This will guarantee that all users, no matter their abilities, have equal opportunities to engage in digital communication and collaboration effectively.
